Cloud Computing: The Future and the Indian context

If you tell a child that you would be able to use Harry’s toys sitting at your house, surely he will be more than glad. This is what the positive of a cloud is. But, the same child fears that Tom may access his toys as well. That’s where the concerns for the cloud lie.
Cloud computing for sure in near future will be journey that knits consumers, technology, and business together. It’s a technology which lets you access things without the cost of ownership.
Wikipedia defines it as:
“Cloud computing is computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services just like electricity.”
Cloud computing is no longer just a “buzz” word limited to technology enthusiasts, but is a force to reckon with in modern business. The issue here is to see the contextual relevance of cloud services for the business – implementation remains the key to its success. Many a slip between the cup and the lip they say, so is the cloud. Allegations and issues with respect to security and authenticity remain, but the advantages are huge for both private and public sector.
The first major advantage is the flexibility and the facilities cloud offers - the amount of scalability various companies can aim for without having to pay a heavy price out of their pockets. What better time for it to grow especially after the recession where “cost cutting” was defined as a performance measure.
The second forte of cloud computing is the ease of use. It makes Information technology look like a common household service which is paid as per delivered. A unit price model enhancing the agility and reducing the cost and improved user adaptability seems a lot of feathers in the cap of cloud computing.
Are India and the enterprises in India ready for cloud computing? This remains a million dollar question.
Some indicators in the private sector are Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, JavaEE 6 on the cloud, Cloud Security & Privacy, Google App Engine, Cloud Data Migration, SaaS, Private Clouds, Open Source Cloud Platforms, and jClouds.
Strategic partnership between Microsoft and HP. TCS, WIPRO, Cognizant all the Indian biggies have started their cloud computing arms and extensive research is going on to develop a standard approach. It is akin to preparation for a war in near future in the technology domain wherein everyone wants to stay under the cloud. The major sectors where cloud can play an important role are:
• Banking
• Telecommunication
• Education
• Healthcare
Another important sector where there is a huge untapped potential especially in India is of E-governance, especially with the Aadhar project being launched successfully. A lot of things can work in parallel to get the governance on cloud. Reduced govt procedures more importantly reduce corruption at every level from the clerk to the manager in any government office. Further impact is felt in the reduction of overall costs and the precious as diamond “time”. Looking forward, India has a huge untapped SME as well as unorganized sectors which can be consolidated under the cloud thus having a huge revenue potential.
End of the day cloud is about digitizing the information and having a common server base. How does that help? Primarily in three ways:
• Documents, information in various departments exists in islands, thus cloud helps create a sea of information
• Secondly the data can flow in form of rivers as well to the various departments wherever required thus enhancing interdepartmental information flow.
• Thirdly “Server consolidation” leads to maximum utilization of servers and minimum costs inclusive of indirect costs of server cooling. As an environmentalist, it is a massive energy saving drive.
There are concerns regarding technology, piracy, security. There are issues concerning jurisdiction, administration, legal as well as policy. A committee needs to look into these issues. A list of standards needs to be carefully thought of by the Govt of India and strict monitoring should be implemented on the same. Since the technology is rapidly changing, so must the policy. There needs to be a continuous improvement process as far as the policy making in the cloud is concerned. India at the moment has no dedicated privacy laws, data protection laws and data security laws.
For example, the telecom players lobby would never allow regulation of telemarketing calls and messages in India. Neither the ministry of communication and information technology nor the telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) has seriously looked into such an affair.

With a lot of data including biometric data held by unique identification authority of India (UIDAI), of Indians would pass into the hands of such commercial players and can easily be misused.
Factually looking at the potential in the Indian market, India has 1.4 million developers, over 11,000 system integrators and more than 1,300 independent software vendors. In the next 5 years India could see the creation of 300,000 jobs in the cloud computing sector. Furthermore, the global cloud computing market is expected to touch a global turnover of $70 billion by 2015.

All in all cloud values your idea. It’s something where the corporate will say “The ideas matter” and ironically “the size does not matter anymore.”

A month old at my B-school NITIE!!

A month old at NITIE …….
“Life was, is and would always be a race”. Some months ago I finished up my B-school admission process and thought “this is it!.”I never knew things would be so different .Life is still the same just that I have got a promotion from “rat race(F2) “ to a “cat race(F1)”.Anyways in the true MBA spirit I would simplify things a bit now and would describe my life in the B-School further in the business way. It consists of 5 Ps which define the five senses of my B-school life.

The Five Senses:

• Precipitation
Ever heard the term “raining cats and dogs “?Yes you might have heard of it but seeing it happen live is all together a different experience. It has been raining heavily in Mumbai since I came here. I haven’t even seen the sun for 15 days now .That was strange to me cause I never could have imagined such a situation without a nuclear holocaust. Coming to engineering inventions, it seems that the two most important equipments ever invented were the Umbrella and the rain coat.
A piece of advice: There have been times in the campus when it rains ,but it isn’t water which strikes your head . That’s a riddle for the lesser mortals (not a part of NITIE),and we define it by PPO’s and PPI’s. I have thrice got a PPO and once a PPI and I do not intend getting more lord, that’s too much of a choice.

• Pressure
It started with CAT and GD/PI and has been sustained by GROOVE (induction program for 1st year students at NITIE) and the committee interviews as well.” Sleep” , biologically defined as a “necessity for a man” has been turned into a luxury of late.
Groove involving various activities including dramas, music, case studies and games gave me better insights to the B-school life.
Committee interviews from midnights to early mornings, combined with the late night coffees, maggis has been a different experience altogether. It has taught us not only to sustain pressure but to enjoy it. This will be one of the important learning s for the forthcoming corporate life.

• Pond
That’s the USP of NITIE’s life and it has many dimensions to it .I have realised that this pond is elixir of life for most of us at NITIE .May he be a “Lover Boy/Girl”, ”Health freak Athlete”, ”Smoker” ,”photographer” there is something in it for everyone. Not a day has passed when I haven’t visited the pond. Chatting with friends to looking at other’s girlfriends, ”birthday bashes” ,jamming”, all have been a part and parcel of life here and “THE POND “ has been an integral part of it.

• People
“All engineering B-school”, looks odd , sounds odd but still has made the mark in the industry. I feel somehow justifies the adage “ winners don’t do different things but they do it differently”.
My friends group has doubled over a month .People are friendly , diverse, achievers but still modest. It is something like a little mafia, a friend of mine is a friend of yours and hence you are part of a gang. If NITIE has been a resort away from home it cannot go without the ingredient of the pool of people I have around me.

• Professors:
“Knols, blogs, quizzes, assignments, presentations, mid terms”, these words aren’t alien to me now, 1 month down the line at NITIE, thanks to the experienced faculty who have kept me busy all the time. Their experience mixed with our enthusiasm, NITIE has been a great learning experience.

Writing the experience draws my mind to the sixth P or in other words the sixth sense. P for Prerana or P for Placecom or may be a P in imPress. I am not an oracle to tell the same , but the sixth sense surely going to be an important addendum in life at NITIE in the years to come. Anyways have been a little verbose with the experience here but would like to keep my pen down with the following thoughts on NITIE:

“The woods here are dark and green,
The stairs are going to turn me lean,
Sleeping here is surely less seen,
Life can be so much fun , am I sure it isn’t a dream?”

to the dead.....

the day we met
till the day you left
a lot changed love

Still dont beleive it
that we did delete it
the thing called "we "
or whatever may it be..

nothing lasts forever
neither did this
but what i regret is
it wasnt to be a bliss....

There are things i miss
..may be the last kiss??
anyways ..life will go on
may it be dusk or dawn...........
-------------
I and you will live on
but keep the thought in the head---

"nobody cried...
when we died....."

Tuesday, December 04, 2007

..i did hear it somewhere...."its not that i miss her.....i miss what i thought she wass.. You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on." "You wondered how you’d make it through. I wondered what was wrong with you. Because how could you give your love to someone else, yet share your dreams with me? Sometimes the only thing you’re looking for, is the one thing you can’t see.

IN NEED OF CONVIVIALITY

well this blog i might sound a paranoid but generally i am in this woebegone state after a fag .dont mind !!ahh seems like the being in his goddman world is a suffering
..the birth a suffering
..old age is a suffering ..
childhood without the carte blanche a suffering
adolesence with all those questions in the mind a suffering family life with the responsibilities a suffering
being with loathsome people all around a suffering
disease a suffering
making love a suffering
loss of love a suffering
failure a suffering
death a suffering
hmm ankit mahajan is sounding little pugnacious.just in need to meet a vicar.may be he will beat him down in the debate today,!!..though this debate is up for grabs for anyone reading my blog.(one conition let me be high ..i bet competition will be much toughe r !)
anyways life today seems to me like a predicament a.story of struggle for every man who has been made insatiable to struggle till life downs its tools! ..by the ONE who has the dossier of evrybody alive and is read to him after his end (THE so called JUDGEMENT DAY) ..

born to win ..

no this isnt a book reveiw....but its just ..another of my blogss..its abt 3 in the afternoon ..didnt feel like going to class..anyways the question that reverberated in my mind..that am i born to win?no no surely not....!! nextt....is it that only some gifted one are ..born to win??who show their prodigy in childhood....no ..that cannot be said for sure ,have seen erudites digging holes in water..even after being adept in their respective feilds..so who excatly.is THE ONE???
is he the one with..POWER??
SUPERNATURAL POWER??
MONEY??
FAME??
or is it juss the hapiness that..measure how much of a winner we are??
or is a GAMUT of all the factors?
if it is the case WHAT is the right propotion?
is a winner a succesfull man or a successful man a winner ??
can say a kind of chicken and egg situation..swell deperately need the answer to the questions !! i hope serendipity does work (the answers will be vital!!for my vitality !)

after a longg timee !!...a journey seen !!

the journey too longg.
the paths still nt made
with the sun toilng dwn
gotta move via the shade !

the sun wll add to the struggle
or is it to make the struggle .a struggle!!
am i happy to reach the goal
or the way o reaching it wil give me what i want

what i am today is what i was not
but the problem is how to sort
the array af problms in maaah cot
which are more often than not
but still i got to trot trot and trot.....!

ah god am tired
or the thought of it tiring me
there are many a bate..s
but that is what i need to hate.,
to walk through the gate
rather hovering around it !

" how to do it >??
why to do it??
am i really fr it ??"

vague thought tampering my mind
but the way is still gonna be hard to find

anyways i am the best
have to be a cut above the rest
